What I Would Change In Math Class

In our math class to learn topics or something about a subject we go on Khan Academy. I like going to get on Khan Academy to work on problems, but they don’t explain it well. I prefer having Mr.Oldfield explain the problems in front of the class. It helps me understand it more then when Khan Academy tries to explain something. When they show you how to do the problem they don’t tell you how to do it. They only show you the problem worked down and the answer to the problem.

I also like to use paper and pencils so I actually have notes to use when I’m stuck on a problem. I feel like it helps me better on tests and other problems. Being on the computer is okay, but I don’t really like to be at the computers all the time.

Student-Led Conference’s

  • I can add and subtract negative numbers. I did these problems on Khan Academy and did 43 total problems and got 38 correct.
  • I can multiply and divide negative numbers. I did 32 total problems and got 25 correct.
  • I have not yet gotten to start the distributive property.
  • I can combine like terms and combine like terms with the distributive property. I did 2 total problems for combining like terms and got both of them correct. For combining like terms with the distributive property  I did two total problems and got 1 of them correct.
  • I can evaluate positive, zero, and negative exponents. On Khan Academy I had 32 total problems, but only got 12 correct. When we took a test for this I got a 100%.
  • I can simplify expressions using exponents. I have not done this exercise on Khan Academy, but we did take a test on it. I got a 100% on this test.

I think I deserve at least a decent A grade in math. I have always worked my hardest on tests and try to do the best I can on Khan Academy. When I don’t understand something I always ask Mr. Oldfield about the topic. I only haven’t done well on two  tests out of six. On four of my tests I have gotten an A because we worked on the subjects on Khan Academy. The other two tests i did not do so well on because I did not work on it the topic that much.  I work as hard as I can on Khan Academy and take notes on the topics to make sure I have the topic down.

Square Root of 71

To find a square root of a number that doesn’t have a whole number, you have to find the closest square roots with a whole number.

8*8= 64     9*9= 81

The square root of 71 will be between the numbers 8 and 9.

If you find the number between 64 and 81 it will be easier to find the answer.

The middle number for 64 and 81 will be 72.5

Now you know that 71 is closer to 8 rather than 9 and less than 72.5

The answer can not be 8.5 because that is almost the square root of 72.5

Now you have to choose between the numbers 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, or 8.4

We know that the answer can’t be 8.1 or 8.2 because they are too close to the square root of 64.

Now we have 8.3 or 8.4 to choose from. since 8.5 was about 72.5. The answer must be 8.4 because it is closest to 8.5 and 8.5 was a little less then 72.5

About me!

I love bands. Some of my favorite bands are:

Paramore, Black Veil Brides, Pierce the Veil, Coldplay, Nickelback, and Sleeping With Sirens.

Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do. A few of my favorite artists are:

Eminem, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Jason Derulo, and a whole lot more.

My favorite sport to watch is soccer. To me it’s just exciting to see them play and how hard they play. My favorite sport to play is basketball. I love playing basketball because some teams can be aggressive and it gets me worked up which makes it more fun to play.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m bored or I have free time is play video games. I like to play Xbox, PlayStation, and play games on the computer.

Some other facts to know about me:

My favorite food is shrimp. My favorite color is black. I love hanging out with my friends and being around them makes me happy. I don’t really like school but it’s a necessity for me and keeping my grades up is a necessity too. My parents are divorced and they live about 2 hours away from one another so I barely see my dad. I am easily embarrassed and I am shy around people I don’t know. I hate being in front of crowds and I hate presenting stuff or talking in front of the class. I also hate surprises because I get very curious and annoy people about it. When I get older I want to go to FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast University).
